Visitor Acknowledgement, Assumption of Risk & Release of Liability
Welcome to Oceans Forward, Rosalie Bay Distilling, the Rosalie Coral Center (RCC), and the Soufrière Marine Life Center (Slow Corner).
We’re excited to share our work with you. During your visit, you may tour active conservation facilities, research laboratories, coral nurseries, distillation areas, aquaculture systems, workshops, and other operational spaces. These are working facilities where science, conservation, education, and (occasionally) rum all happen at the same time.
By selecting “I Agree,” you acknowledge and agree to the following:
You understand that your visit involves certain inherent risks, including but not limited to uneven ground, wet or slippery surfaces, stairs, docks, rocky shorelines, laboratory equipment, volcanic activity, active construction or maintenance activities, research equipment, machinery, tropical weather, insects, wildlife, venomous marine organisms, distilled spirits, and other hazards commonly associated with operating research, conservation, and manufacturing facilities.
You voluntarily assume all risks associated with your visit, whether known or unknown, foreseeable or unforeseeable, and agree to exercise reasonable care while on the premises. While we work hard to keep everyone safe, nature occasionally has other plans. The organization cannot guarantee protection from sudden rain showers, enthusiastic mosquitoes, gravity’s ongoing relationship with coconuts, judgmental chickens, curious hermit crabs, overly friendly geckos, or any other wildlife that decides you look particularly interesting. This release also extends to encounters with the Easter Bunny, glitter-fart producing unicorns, dragons, pirates, mermaids, Bigfoot, or any species not yet recognized by modern science, should science suddenly have a very exciting day.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release and hold harmless Oceans Forward, Inc., Oceans Forward Dominica, Rosalie Bay Distilling, the Rosalie Coral Center, the Soufrière Marine Life Center, and their directors, officers, employees, volunteers, contractors, researchers, partners, sponsors, and affiliates from any claims arising from your participation or presence on the property, including personal injury, illness, property damage, loss, or death.
If you choose to participate in an alcoholic beverage tasting, you certify that you are of legal drinking age and will consume alcohol responsibly. You agree not to operate a motor vehicle or vessel while impaired, and you understand that staff may refuse service whenever they believe it is appropriate.
You agree to respect all staff instructions, remain within designated visitor areas unless escorted, avoid touching research equipment or animals unless specifically invited to do so, and treat our facilities, exhibits, animals, and fellow visitors with care and respect. If you intentionally or negligently damage property, you may be responsible for repair or replacement costs.
You understand that photographs and video may be taken during your visit for scientific, educational, promotional, fundraising, and social media purposes. By selecting “I Agree,” you consent to the use of your likeness unless you notify a staff member before the tour begins. If you happen to be Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, or an extraterrestrial marine biologist conducting field work on Earth, we promise to make reasonable efforts to respect your privacy while simultaneously recognizing the extraordinary scientific significance of your existence.
You also acknowledge that visiting Oceans Forward facilities may have unintended consequences. These may include developing an unhealthy fascination with sea turtles, explaining to strangers that coral is an animal, suddenly caring about marine conservation, believing that rum can help save oceans, wanting to move to Dominica, or discovering that Caribbean sunsets have permanently ruined all future sunsets for you. We accept no responsibility for any of these life-changing outcomes.
Finally, if during your visit you happen to observe a unicorn, sea serpent, mermaid, dragon, or any other legendary creature, you agree to immediately notify the nearest scientist. While we make no representations regarding their existence, we would very much appreciate the opportunity to publish the paper.
By selecting “I Agree,” you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Release of Liability and voluntarily agree to its terms. You also acknowledge that you found at least one hidden joke, and if you found them all, you’re probably the kind of person we’d enjoy having back.
